The 3rd International Workshop on Microbiome in HIV Pathogenesis, Prevention and Treatment took place in Rockville, Maryland Oct 19th and 20th, 2017. The workshop was attended by international participants. The aim of the workshop is to provide increased opportunity for discussion and exchange of knowledge following formal presentations of the latest research in this area.
The conference is unique in that it included oral presentations and abstract presentations by basic scientists and clinicians from both the HIV field and those involved in microbiome research.l
There were many professionals in the field of microbiome research who provided a better understanding of the impact of the microbiome on host immunity. They helped to gain a better understanding of how the microbiome effects the pathogenesis of HOV across mucosal sites. They also looked in to developing novel strategies for developing microbicides / vaccine for HIV prevention.
